I am a writer and director, based in New York.
I have written plays about neurology; picture books about math; adaptations of sci-fi novels; translations of French and Czech absurdists and of ancient Greek drama; puppet theater; modern Oz novels; explorations of economic theory; autobiographical found text dramas; midrashim on Jewish cultural icons; a libretto for an oratorio; and other texts of a less definable nature. I have also directed much of the above. Some of my theater venues (Off- and Off-Off-Broadway) include La MaMa, 3LD Art & Technology Center, The Ohio, St. Ann's Warehouse, the Walter Bruno Theater at Lincoln Center, The Brick, the Czech Embassy in Washington, and the Bohemian National Hal. I am also the Artistic Director of a theater company, Untitled Theater Company #61 - a Theater of Ideas.
Recent projects include co-writing/co-directing The God Projekt at La MaMa; my new translatn/adaptation of former Czech President Václav Havel's play The Pig, or Václav Havel's Hunt for a Pig, playing at 3LD Art + Technology Center in New York; my school visits in conjunction with my new picture book, The Reducer: Fractions in Disguise.
The New York Times has called my work "exquisitely ingenious" and "almost unbearably funny"; Kirkus has called it "thoroughly entertaining"; Time Out had called it "challenging, thought-provoking"; Booklist has celled it "funny, fantastical"; and The Village Voice has called it "Inspired absurdist comedy " Read more of the reviews on the press page.
