I am a writer and director, based in New York. My writing falls into a few categories - I have written children's books, ranging from picture books to chapter novels, and I have written a variety of plays, both for adults and children. I am also the Artistic Director of a theater company, Untitled Theater Company #61 - a Theater of Ideas.
Recent projects include directing my new adaptation of Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?; my Hannukah play, Playing Dreidel with Judah Maccabee, just published by Theater 61 Press; my school visits in conjunction with A Very Improbable Story, my picture book about probability; and my new picture book, The Reducer: Fractions in Diguise, which will be published by Charlesbridge Press next year.
Some other sample projects include my adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle as a calypso musical, which I also directed; my Oz books, modern novels in the tradition of The Wizard of Oz, published by Hungry Tiger Press; the NEUROfest, a festival of plays about neurological conditions, for which I wrote a number of plays; my Off-Broadway show, which I co-wrote and directed Fairy Tales of the Absurd; Playing Dreidel with Judah Maccabee, my Hanukkah play; my plays about Jewish legends, collected in The Golem, Methuselah, and Shylock; and the Václav Havel Festival, which I curated, featuring the complete works of Václav Havel. |
